Veteran Owned Dog Training

Fire Island K9 is a family-owned business in Sayville, NY that specializes in functional obedience and handler education. We offer customized board-and-train programs and private in-home training lessons to help you and your dog reach your full potential.


Danny, the owner and operator of Fire Island K9, is a USMC veteran with extensive experience as a military working dog handler and trainer. He has accumulated years of proven expertise both overseas and domestically. During his military career, Danny completed a variety of specialized K9 training courses and served two tours in Helmand Province, Afghanistan. There, he and his military working dog Gretchen, were integral members of a Marine Corps Special Operations team, conducting combat operations.

Training Packages

3 Week In Home Board-and-Train

During our three week board-and-train, we will welcome your dog into our home. Your dog will be trained in basic obedience, as well as environmental and social neutrality. Your dog will be introduced to essential commands such as sit, down, place, kennel, heel, and recall. Prior to booking a board and train session we will conduct a phone consultation. Dogs with aggressive behavior problems will require an in person consultation.

Upon completion of the program, we place a strong emphasis on handler education to ensure a smooth and successful reintegration into your home. Throughout the three-week period, you will receive regular updates, including pictures and videos, showcasing your dog's progress. This program includes an E-Collar Technologies E-Collar system, a Herm Sprenger collar, and a "place" bed.

Behavior Focused Board and Train: 3-4 Weeks

Our behavior focused board and train is designed for dogs that are demonstrating aggressive behavior, such as human aggression, animal aggression, resource guarding, as well as other anxious or reactive tendencies. Working through these behaviors requires more time and patience to ensure a positive outcome. This program requires an in person consultation.

$4,500-$5,000

Upon completion of the program, we place a strong emphasis on handler education to ensure a smooth and successful reintegration into your home. Private One on One Sessions

We offer one-on-one private lessons where we meet with you and teach you how to train your own dog! This lesson is geared towards educating the owner on how to implement structure and daily routine into your dog's life. This is a good option for a dog owner who is motivated to train independently.

Private Session

1 session- $175

During our private sessions, we provide valuable insight and advice on effectively managing specific behavior challenges. It’s important to approach training with realistic expectations—achieving a well-trained dog is an ongoing investment. While progress can be made in each session, lasting results require consistency, patience, and commitment beyond a single lesson. Let’s work together to create long-term success for you and your dog!
